Do I need sewing experience?

No. Most of our classes, camps, and workshops are beginner-friendly. We guide students step by step and welcome complete beginners.

Do I need my own sewing machine?

No. Sewing machines are available for use during lessons, camps, and workshops unless otherwise stated. You are welcome to bring your own machine if you would like to learn on it.

What ages do you teach?

We offer programs for children, teens, and adults. Please check the specific program description for age requirements.

Are materials included?

Many of our workshops and camps include materials. Please check the individual program description for details.

What should I bring to class?

Unless otherwise stated, just bring yourself and a willingness to learn. If a program requires specific supplies or fabric, this will be noted in the course description.

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes. We offer private sewing lessons for children, teens, and adults. Lessons can be tailored to your experience level and goals.

What can I learn in sewing lessons?

Students learn skills such as using a sewing machine, reading patterns, garment construction, alterations, zipper installation, hemming, and creating custom projects.

Are your classes beginner-friendly?

Absolutely. Many of our students have never used a sewing machine before. We provide a supportive environment where you can learn at your own pace.

How do I register for a class or camp?

Registration can be completed through our website. If you need assistance, please contact us and we will be happy to help.

Do you offer alteration services?

Yes. We provide a variety of alteration services, including hemming, zipper replacement, resizing, repairs, and garment adjustments.

How much does a pants hem cost?

Basic pants hems start at $20, including tax. Please contact us for pricing on other alteration services.

Can you alter formal dresses and special occasion garments?

Yes. We work on a variety of garments, including formal dresses, prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and other special occasion wear.

Arazu brings international experience in garment construction, alterations, and pattern drafting, including dressmaking work in Dubai. She specializes in precise fitting, detailed sewing, alterations and creating well-constructed garments with care and skill.

Susmita brings creativity, organization, and a strong fashion presence to the Philia Brant team. With experience in modeling, event coordination, and fashion, she helps create a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere during workshops and special events.

Alisha is a self-taught sewing enthusiast, loving mom of two girls, and passionate creative who believes sewing is a lifelong learning journey. Through dedication and persistence, she has grown her skills from working on a vintage sewing machine with limited resources to confidently using advanced sewing equipment in her own home studio.

She brings creativity, technical sewing skill, and a passion for garment construction to the Philia Brant team. Alisha especially enjoys structured sewing projects and helping students bring ambitious fashion ideas to life through hands-on learning in a supportive environment.

KERRYSewing Instructor | Garment Sewing & Creative Fashion

Kerry began sewing over 7 years ago after being gifted her grandmother’s sewing machine—a moment that sparked a lasting passion for creating. A self-taught sewist with an adventurous spirit, she developed her skills through hands-on practice, YouTube, blogs, and working with commercial patterns.

She loves creating wearable fashion pieces like flowy pants, skirts, dresses, and comfortable loungewear, with a special interest in working with stretch knits. Originally from Brantford and now based in Paris, Kerry also brings a passion for helping others grow, making her a warm and encouraging presence at Philia Brant.

Inspired by travel, creativity, and everyday wearable fashion, Kerry enjoys helping students build confidence while creating pieces they’ll be proud to wear.
